Biography
Savia Orphanidou was born in 1979 and she is from Nicosia.
She is a graduate from the English School Nicosia and she studied BSc in Economics and Politics and MA in International Political Economy at Warwick University, UK.
Savia became a Member of the Parliament in December 2019 and she was re-elected in May 2021. In February 2020, Savia became the first public figure in Cyprus to announce her pregnancy with a sperm doner. Through her personal experience, she promoted policies, which aimed at facilitating the right of every woman to maternity, especially via the IVF procedure. One of the most important issue that she managed to change was the IVF Government Grant Scheme, in order to include single women and women in a relationship outside marriage, as well as breaking down the steps of IVF and giving grants for each step, especially for the egg freezing procedure.
Savia is currently the Vice Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee of Health, and she is a member of the Finance Committee, the Environment Committee and the Public Expenditure Control Committee.
Since July 2020, she is a proud mother of a daughter, Despina.
